Summer Music Camp Concert

The Grosse Pointe Music Academy Summer Music Camp will perform it’s end of the week concert on Friday, August 8th from 2:00pm-3pm.

The concert will be held at Atwater in the Park; a new family-friendly, neighborhood restaurant and brew pub in Grosse Pointe Park.  The food is great so if you’re hungry be sure to give it a try!

The summer music camp concert will consist of rock music acts performed by 2 different bands from the group.

We’re always glad to share news about local music groups keeping traditions alive, and few do it better than the Balduck Mountain Ramblers. This March, they’re celebrating 30 years of Irish-inspired performances with a packed St. Patrick’s month schedule and a brand new album—their first since 2006!

We’re excited to help spread the word about a stunning upcoming performance: clarinetist and composer Kinan Azmeh and the Kinan Azmeh Quartet will be featured in an upcoming Global Fridays concert series. Known internationally for blending Arabic and Western classical music with jazz and improvisation, Azmeh’s work is both emotionally gripping and technically masterful. His ensemble brings together top-tier talent, delivering powerful live performances that have captivated audiences worldwide—from Paris to Damascus to New York City.

Azmeh, a Juilliard-trained musician originally from Syria, has collaborated with world-renowned artists and performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonie. His quartet’s sound ranges from energetic and rhythmically complex to deeply expressive and meditative, showcasing a unique fusion that transcends genre.

We love when music pops up where you least expect it — like between furniture displays at IKEA! In a wonderfully creative move, about 20 musicians from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra surprised shoppers at IKEA in Canton with a flash mob performance of Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.” The event, held on January 12, was a vibrant promotion for the DSO’s new Neighborhood Concert Series in Canton.

The flash mob delighted surprised customers and quickly gained attention online, with the video racking up thousands of views. According to DSO’s Communications Manager Gabrielle Poshadlo, the idea came from identifying what makes Canton unique — and IKEA felt like the perfect spot to share music with the public in an unexpected, joyful way.

The Canton Neighborhood Concert Series marks the first time the DSO has brought a full orchestra performance series to the Village Theater at Cherry Hill. Upcoming concert dates include March 14, May 9, and June 20 — all scheduled for 8 p.m.
