Electric Guitar Repair is essential to keeping your instrument performing at its best. Whether you’re dealing with tuning instability, buzzing frets, faulty electronics, or cosmetic wear, knowing what goes into electric guitar maintenance helps you make informed decisions about care and upgrades.
At Grosse Pointe Music Academy, we’ve previously offered a full range of electric guitar repair services—from basic restringing and setups to more advanced procedures like fretwork, rewiring, and structural repairs. While we are not currently accepting new repair projects, we believe in keeping this information available for educational purposes and for returning customers to reference.
Common electric guitar repairs include:
- Restringing and cleaning for 6-string, 12-string, and Floyd Rose-equipped guitars
- Complete setups with or without tremolo systems
- Nut replacements and fret leveling, crowning, and polishing
- Pickup installation and electronics work (output jacks, potentiometers, mini switches)
- Structural repairs like re-gluing headstocks or refinishing fingerboards
Each component of an electric guitar—from its pickups and pots to its frets and tuners—affects playability and tone. Regular maintenance and prompt repairs help extend the life of your guitar and ensure consistent performance.
Even though we are not currently offering repair services, we’re happy to offer guidance to help you understand the scope and importance of guitar care. We recommend working with a qualified technician or luthier who specializes in electric guitars when service is needed.
