Metro Detroit guitarists now have the opportunity to play in a group with other six-stringers!
Just like middle and high school band or orchestra students benefit from group experiences, guitar players can now enjoy the same advantages through our Guitar Ensemble class.
The Guitar Ensemble is designed to supplement — not replace — private instruction. It encourages guitarists to build their music reading skills, deepen their understanding of musical structure, and enjoy the powerful experience of making music collaboratively.
In most traditional music programs, students who play guitar often miss out on ensemble opportunities available to other instrumentalists. At Grosse Pointe Music Academy, we believe ensemble experience is vital to a guitarist’s complete music education. Our Guitar Ensemble class gives players of all ages and skill levels the chance to:
- Read music in a group setting
- Learn practical, fun applications of essential musical skills
- Build musicianship while playing alongside others who share similar goals
- Gain encouragement, motivation, and a positive outlook through peer support
Guitar Ensemble is a wonderful and highly recommended supplement to private lessons!
What You’ll Gain from Guitar Ensemble Participation:
- Sight Reading: Improve the ability to read standard notation in first position on the guitar
- Technique: Develop dexterity through major, minor, and pentatonic scales
- Accompaniment: Master first position major and minor chord forms, plus moveable chord shapes
- Improvisation: Build skills to improvise confidently over chord progressions
- Music Theory: Understand the relationships between chords and scales and apply this knowledge musically
- Performance: Perform with the group at our recital, showcasing the ensemble’s unique interpretations of rehearsed pieces
