Playing guitar with just the lyrics and the chords on a sheet of paper is a common practice of many guitar players. The Beatles Complete Chord Songbook is a collection of almost every Beatles song ever played and recorded by the Beatles. Using chord grids at the top of the page and chord symbols over the lyrics, this book will show you how to play every song in the exact key that the song was written in. This book presents The Beatles’ songs in a format designed for a guitarist singing the songs on their own without other players on lead guitar or any other instrument. In some cases certain chord shapes have been simplified but as mentioned earlier, all songs are in their original key. You will need to have a capo for some of the songs in the book. Numbers like ‘Norwegian Wood’ used a capo on the original recordings, while in other circumstances (such as ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’) a capo has been used to make playing in difficult keys easier. All songs in the book have been transcribed in the same key as used on the original recordings. In the case of Eb standard tuning (Tuning guitar flat by 1 semitone), the name of the written chords are not the actual chords. The written chords will be the names that the normal standard tuning represent. This is done to make it easier for the reader to play after he/she detunes the guitar. Songs like ‘Lovely Rita Meter Maid’ and ‘I’m only Sleeping’ are tuned 1 semitone flat. At the beginning of such songs, an indication of flat tuning will appear. This book will not show any of the strumming patterns, lead guitar solos, or finger-picking patterns that may be used in some songs. Players who wish to learn the authentic finger-picking for songs such as ‘Blackbird’, ‘Julia’, and ‘Here Comes the Sun’ would want to seek out fully scored versions of those songs. While the book doesn’t give us any indication of rhythm during the verses and choruses, it does show measure markings during guitar solos and breaks.
