Band and Ensemble Classes at Grosse Pointe Music Academy

This year, Grosse Pointe Music Academy is offering a variety of Band and Ensemble classes for students of all ages and instruments. We now offer:

• Rock Band
• Jazz Band
• String Quartet
• Guitar Ensemble
• Adult Rock/Blues Jam Group

Ensemble classes help students develop the skills necessary for playing and performing with other musicians. We group students by age, musical interests, and experience level to ensure an engaging and educational experience.

Rock Band
Rock Band classes typically include 3–5 students on drums, bass, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, keyboard, and vocals. Students will learn to jam over basic rock and blues progressions and perform popular songs using tablature and sheet music. Private lessons are strongly encouraged alongside this class.

Jazz Band
Jazz Band includes drums, bass, rhythm guitar, keyboard/piano, vocals, and various lead instruments (woodwind or brass). This class emphasizes music reading and includes soloing, comping, chord substitution, and other essential jazz techniques.

String Quartet
Open to two violinists, a violist, and a cellist. Students will perform classical and contemporary arrangements. A minimum of six months of private lessons is recommended before joining.

Guitar Ensemble
Designed for guitarists and one bassist, this ensemble gives students a unique opportunity to play rhythm, harmony, and melody in a group. Guitar Ensemble offers ensemble experience not typically available in school programs, while also improving music reading and group playing skills.

Adult Rock/Blues Jam Group
It’s never too late to rock! This group is designed for adult musicians looking to play in a band setting. Learn rock and blues progressions, jam with others, and develop live performance skills. Call today to reserve your spot!
