Now Hiring Music Teachers – Grosse Pointe Music Academy is Looking for Talented Instructors
Grosse Pointe Music Academy is always looking to connect with qualified musicians who enjoy teaching and are ready to help students grow. Whether you’re an experienced instructor or just beginning your teaching career, we’re open to starting a conversation.
We offer private lessons for a wide range of instruments and receive regular inquiries for new students. If you’re friendly, punctual, and organized—and you have the skills and desire to teach—you could be a great fit.
Instruments We’re Hiring For
We frequently receive student interest in the following instruments:
- Piano and Keyboard
- Guitar (Acoustic & Electric)
- Bass Guitar and Upright Bass
- Ukulele
- Drums and Percussion
- Voice and Vocal Coaching
- Violin, Viola, and Cello
- Saxophone
- Flute and Clarinet
- Trumpet and Trombone
We also welcome applicants who teach other instruments not listed here. We’re always growing and expanding our offerings based on demand.
Workload and Scheduling Expectations
Most of our teachers work 4–6 hours per day. Teachers build their own availability, which is then reviewed to ensure it fits our space and needs. New teachers begin with a light schedule and build up over time. Once a schedule fills, it becomes a steady and reliable position. Most students stay long term, so turnover is low and retention is high.
Lesson Materials and Structure
Teachers are free to use their own methods and materials. We recommend that instructors guide students on what to purchase—most required music books are inexpensive and widely available. Lessons are structured around each student’s level and interests.
Communication and Attendance
We expect strong, consistent communication from our teachers. In the age of texting, there’s no reason we shouldn’t hear from someone if a situation comes up. Attendance is mandatory, except for illness or emergencies. Any planned time off should be communicated well in advance.
Opportunities for Growth
While we don’t have formal leadership roles defined, instructors who thrive here often grow their teaching studio, expand their schedule, and even move on to open their own programs. We fully support professional growth and creativity.
How to Apply
Our hiring process is simple:
- Email your résumé to info@grossepointemusicacademy.com
- If we’re interested, we’ll contact you for a phone interview
- Next, we’ll schedule an in-person interview to meet at the studio
Please include as much detail about your music experience and availability as possible.
Onboarding and Scheduling Support
Once you’re hired, you’ll receive a quick onboarding through our app for scheduling. We also send tax and direct deposit documents through an electronic signature platform. All scheduling is handled by our admin team, so you can focus on teaching.
Experience and Requirements
Formal music degrees are not required. Some of our best teachers are self-taught musicians who’ve developed strong communication and instructional skills. What matters most is your ability to effectively pass on your knowledge and work well with students and families.
How Students Are Matched with Teachers
You won’t need to recruit students. Our marketing and admin teams handle placement. Beginners are matched based on teacher availability. More advanced students are placed with teachers whose skills align with their learning goals.
What We Look For in a Teacher
Qualities we value include:
- Punctuality
- Friendliness
- Consistency
- Clear communication
- Solid musical knowledge
- A positive and collaborative attitude
We are open to working with early-career teachers, provided they meet these expectations. New instructors are supported with guidance and opportunities to observe experienced teachers.
Teaching Environment
Our lesson rooms are designed to be comfortable and clean. Each room fits the teacher, student, and a parent, if desired. We provide basic shared equipment and prioritize maintaining an organized, welcoming space.
If you are comfortable teaching online, we can offer virtual lessons through our platform. Our staff will assist with setup and promotion of online availability.
Flexibility for Instructors
We offer time off with advanced notice. While you set your general availability, final approval is needed to coordinate space and student placement across all teachers. The system is flexible, but designed to run efficiently for everyone.
Our Approach to Instruction
We believe that each teacher should be able to tailor lessons to their students. Private instruction allows for personalized attention and progress tracking. Some students pursue recitals and performance. Others are focused on skill-building or playing casually. We support all of it.
About Our School and Community
Grosse Pointe Music Academy has been operating for over 20 years. We’ve earned a reputation for being organized, responsive, and community-focused. Our admin team is dedicated to high-quality service, both for families and for our instructors.
We regularly donate lessons to local schools for their fundraising auctions, and we remain active in supporting the local music and education community.
How We Promote Teachers
Our teachers are actively promoted on our website, in social posts, at student recitals, and through local events. We handle marketing through Google search, local advertising, and community outreach. You focus on teaching—we help bring the students in.
