The Detroit Concert Choir (DCC), led by Artistic Director Gordon Nelson, is an internationally recognized vocal ensemble celebrated for its artistic excellence and cultural contributions. Now in its 24th season, the DCC brings a rich and diverse repertoire to audiences, spanning contemporary a cappella works, American folk and gospel traditions, and major masterworks for chorus and orchestra.
Based in Grosse Pointe Woods, the choir draws over 80 singers from more than 40 communities across Metro Detroit. The ensemble presents a dynamic concert season, participates in community outreach, collaborates with organizations like the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and has performed at major conventions including those of the American Choral Directors Association.
The Detroit Concert Choir has distinguished itself globally through its participation in international festivals across Wales, Spain, Italy, Ireland, and Austria. Notable achievements include winning the prestigious Choir of the World title at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales, as well as receiving the nationally respected Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence.
As part of Detroit Performing Artists, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, DCC is committed to promoting choral music of high artistic merit and offering cultural enrichment to the community through performance and education. Their work is supported by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.
