Rhythm Kids Music Classes (Ages 4–8)

At Grosse Pointe Music Academy, we love offering opportunities for big kids to make music in playful, energetic, and creative ways! While we do not currently have any Rhythm Kids® classes scheduled for Fall 2025, we invite you to explore the program below and contact us if you’d like to be notified when it returns.
What is Rhythm Kids®?
Rhythm Kids® by Music Together® is a fun and active music, movement, and drumming program designed specifically for children ages 4 through 8. Through drumming, singing, rhythm games, animal rhythm stories, and playful movement activities, children build confidence, coordination, and creativity — all while making music with new friends.
Classes draw on music and rhythms from cultures around the world, including West African Gahu, Japanese Taiko, and Brazilian Samba. This program supports children’s natural love of rhythm and movement while developing essential musical skills.
How Rhythm Kids® Works
Level 1 (Ages 4–5)
A fun, engaging introduction to drumming, singing, movement, and rhythm games for younger children with a parent or caregiver.
Children will:
- Make up their own drumming patterns
- Create movement ideas for songs
- Explore rhythm through music-based games
- Develop confidence and leadership skills through music
Class Format:
- 10 weekly 45-minute classes
- Animal Collection Songbook + CDs
- Access to online rhythm videos
Level 2 (Ages 5–8)
Designed for Kindergarten through 2nd graders, Level 2 builds on musical foundations and deepens rhythmic understanding.
Children will:
- Learn multicultural drumming patterns
- Explore ensemble play and improvisation
- Discover rhythm through movement, singing, and games
- Play percussion instruments and compose simple rhythms
- Enjoy access to online tutorials and play-alongs
Class Format:
- 10 weekly 45-minute classes
- Animal Collection Songbook + CDs
- Online access for home practice
Do I Need a Drum?
For in-class use, drums are provided. If your child would like to continue drumming at home, we offer special discounts on djembe drums for Music Together® families.
